Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of April 21, 2014

April 17, 2014 – Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of April 21, 2014.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 15, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

  • Monday, April 21, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22, at about 7:05 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, April 21, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

In addition to the tunnel and surface blasting taking place at the intersection of KY 841 and U.S. 42, surface blasting will take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting at the north portal (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, April 21, at about 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22, at about 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23, at about 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24, at about 3 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, at about 3 p.m.

Surface blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road beginning April 18, 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Friday, April 18, 2014 at about 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, April 21, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.

Indiana: Blasting schedule for week of April 21, 2014

Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped on Upper River Road for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, April 21, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24, at about 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25, at about 4:30 p.m.

Blasting will also take place in Indiana just north of the blasting location above. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

April 17, 2014 -The north portal surface blasting schedule for the remainder of this week in Kentucky has been altered. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive.   • Saturday, April 19, at about 11:30 a.m.

Indiana: Periodic traffic stops from southbound SR 62 onto westbound SR 265 April 17-18

April 17, 2014 – There will be periodic traffic stops in Indiana from the southbound SR 62 ramp onto the westbound SR 265 ramp. Traffic may be stopped for 20 minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public beginning April 17, 2014 at 8 p.m. to April 18, 2014 at 5 a.m.

Kentucky: Springdale Road closed rescheduled for April 15-18

April 15, 2014 – Springdale Road, in the vicinity of Wolf Pen Branch Road and Clipping Cross Road, will be closed the morning of April 15, 2014 through the afternoon of April 17, 2014. This closure was originally scheduled to begin April14, 2014, but got delayed due to weather conditions. Signage and message boards are in place to reroute motorists.

Indiana: All blasting operations cancelled for April 15, 2014

April 15, 2014 – All blasting operations in Indiana have been cancelled for Tuesday, April 15, 2014 due to site conditions. Blasting takes place just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road.

Construction is taking place on existing highways; however, two lanes of interstate traffic, going both ways, will always be open. Some ramps may be blocked for short or extended periods of time. When possible, this website will give at least 30 days of advance notice for traffic control activities.
