Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of September 22, 2014

Sept. 18, 2014 – Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur during the week of September 22, 2014.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, occurs in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, September 22, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 23, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 24, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 25, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 26, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 27, at about 11:30 a.m.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began in January 2014, occurs in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

  • Monday, September 22: Several blasts in the morning (before 8 a.m.), several blasts around 12 p.m. and several blasts in the afternoon (before 6 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, September 23: Several blasts in the morning (before 8 a.m.), several blasts around 12 p.m. and several blasts in the afternoon (before 6 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, September 24: Several blasts in the morning (before 8 a.m.), several blasts around 12 p.m. and several blasts in the afternoon (before 6 p.m.)
  • Thursday, September 25: Several blasts in the morning (before 8 a.m.), several blasts around 12 p.m. and several blasts in the afternoon (before 6 p.m.)
  • Friday, September 26: Several blasts in the morning (before 8 a.m.), several blasts around 12 p.m. and several blasts in the afternoon (before 6 p.m.)

Tunnel Blasting will also take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, September 22: Several blasts in the morning (before 7 a.m.)
  • Tuesday, September 23: Several blasts in the morning (before 7 a.m.)
  • Wednesday, September 24: Several blasts in the morning (before 7 a.m.)
  • Thursday, September 25: Several blasts in the morning (before 7 a.m.)
  • Friday, September 26: Several blasts in the morning (before 7 a.m.)

Surface Blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. The surface blasting at this location began in April 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic will be stopped on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

  • Monday, September 22, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 23, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 24, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 25, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 26, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 27, at about 11:30 a.m.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.

  • Tuesday, September 23: Several blasts in the morning (after 9 a.m.) and several blasts in the afternoon (before 7 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, September 24: Several blasts in the morning (after 9 a.m.) and several blasts in the afternoon (before 7 p.m.)
  • Thursday, September 25: Several blasts in the morning (after 9 a.m.) and several blasts in the afternoon (before 7 p.m.)

Indiana: Lane restrictions on SR 62 September 22-26, 2014

Sept. 18, 2014 – There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange September 22-26, 2014 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. each day. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Motorists are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Indiana: Shadowbrook Lane closed beginning Sept. 22, 2014

Sept. 11, 2014 – Shadowbrook Lane, at the intersection of Utica-Sellersburg Road, will be closed beginning Sept. 22, 2014 and is expected to reopen mid-November 2014. Motorists are asked to use caution when in the area during this time.

Construction is taking place on existing highways; however, two lanes of interstate traffic, going both ways, will always be open. Some ramps may be blocked for short or extended periods of time. When possible, this website will give at least 30 days of advance notice for traffic control activities.
